Closet Organization

I did a couple of stories on how I organize my closet, but decided to dedicate an entire blog post to it. Let me start by saying for those who don’t know I live in Houston, Texas. This is important because if you live here you are unable to season your closet. We are a lucky bunch of people that can experience every season in one week, or sometimes we have winter in the middle of whats felt like summer? You just never know.

also, another disclaimer I organized my closet based on what made the most sense for me. This could be different for everyone based on a daily routine, or the placement of furniture and closet in relation to your room. My set up also might be changing in the near future as my company turn back to working in office everyday. So the every day clothes that I grab for are going to be changing.

Starting with fundamentals- When I decided to organize the closet at our new house I started with the easiest step 1: which of my items would be folded and which would be hung. Another thing that can differ between people based on their space. I would say we have a very average size closet now, but I had a very small closet in our old house. I’ve include an image below of my old closet as well as a link to my previous post on organizing small closets!

Small Closet: At our old house I had a traditional sliding door closet, don’t know if that’s what you actually call it, but it was 1 rod all the way across, one level.

I chose to hang up only my nice work tops and dresses. Everything else was folded and organized in different types of dressers or organizing bins like the pink ones pictures here

Small Closet Organization

As you know, or if you don’t know, Jordan and I bought our first house. It was built in the ‘50s, though it has since been updated. We love it SO much, but the one thing that wasn’t touched was the closets. The closets in our house are your typical sliding-door wall closets. We do have one in each room, and because it’s only Jordan and I living in the house we are able to use all three for us.

For a little breakdown, the closet in the master both Jordan and I use. There is a section of the closet made for long dresses, hence I keep my dresses in this closet, as well as my non-work-friendly tops. This is also where I keep all my sweaters. Our office is where I keep all my other non-dresser clothes. The closet in our guestroom houses all of Jordan’s other clothes as well as all his uniforms and a second dresser.

This is the view looking at my closet in the office. My father-in-law so kindly took off the sliding doors, because 1) they were heavy and hard to move, and 2) I didn’t like how much light they blocked, and not being able to see all of my clothes at one time. The top of the closet I use for storage of some shoes I keep in their boxes, all my bags are put into one bag to save space, and the three drawers up there hold all of my crafting items.

Below that is where my work hanging clothes go. I like to organize my clothes by sleeve length versus color. I tried the color thing for a while, but it seems I have way too many patterned clothes, so it bothered me and looked less organized. Below all my hanging clothes are my shoes. I have the rack on the left for my heels and bigger boots and I keep all of my flats and sneakers in the cubbies. On top of the cubbies is where I keep my cricut when I’m not using it. The three pink drawers from Target (that I love) house all my work skirts in the top and middle. The bottom drawer holds all my Disney items (magic bands, ears, hats, backpack, etc.).

So far the system works for us. I am able to get all my clothes in the small area as well as have an organized way to keep my shoes and other items that don’t hang.

Do you have any hacks for small closet spaces?

Amazon Round-Up

Amazon Round-Up

Back at it again with a non-sponsored Amazon must-have list! I feel like Amazon has become my new Target. I go on Amazon for 1 item and end up in the rabbit hole of all these other items I FOR SURE need in our house. So let’s dive right in!

  1. Amazon Echos– yes, that’s plural because we have quite a few. We have 2 Echo Shows, a Dot and a Spot which I don’t believe they sell anymore. We use one Echo Show in the living room, and the other on Jordan’s nightstand as an alarm clock. The Echo Show has a screen, which is fun because we will also use this one to check in on the dogs when we aren’t home because it faces their crate. Our Dots are in the kitchen and office where we can play music and set timers, or ask silly things like how many tablespoons are in a cup.
  2. Undies– Hopefully not TMI, but for the price, I will get these a million times. They are so comfortable and way more of a bargain than the VS buy 5 for $30!
  3. Beauty blenders– Pretty self-explanatory!
  4. Sheets – I heard SO much about these sheets! Finally, I decided to give them a go and man oh man! Affordable and comfortable. So much nicer to put these on when our hotel collection sheets are in the wash instead of cheap college style sheets!
  5. My lashes– I used to have lash extensions for about 3 years. After I got married I canceled my subscription and switched to these and I’m not even lookin’ back.
  6. Henley Top– I love this top so much, and I, of course, got it in maroon, because of well Aggie life.
  7. Sweaters– I live in Houston, so I honestly can’t tell you what I plan on doing with another sweater.
  8. Black heels– Probably don’t need to get these off Amazon, but it doesn’t hurt. These are my all-time favorite black pumps and my original ones finally gave out on me, so I was very pleased to have another pair so quickly!
  9. Waffle-knit tied tunic– Also in maroon, because AGGIES!
  10. Travel wallet– This is what I use when I travel overseas. If you don’t know me, I’m an organizing freak so this wallet spoke to my heart!
  11. Travel jewelry case– Use this every time I go anywhere…actually if I’m being honest since I moved in with Jordan and didn’t have a place to hang what I used to keep my jewelry on, it kind of lives in this thing all the time!
  12. Our vacuum– Not a Roomba, but it works for us! I also love this one because we only have wood floors in our home and this one also mops!
  13. My purse organizer– I love my Neverfull so much, but I could never find ANYTHING in it. My best friend turned me on to this handy sucker and now I love it even more!
  14. Food storage containers– Because well… organizing my pantry.
  15. Our dog food– By no means am I saying you should feed your dog the same dog food we do, but I wanted to share what we buy and save through Amazon because we can schedule recurring orders. I can’t tell you how many times we have run out of food and had to run out to the store at 8:55, rushing to get food before they close. Switching to having Amazon just deliver once a month was heaven!

Now, to hide all the things I have bought from the Husband… 🙂 Let me know if there are any must haves you got from Amazon!
